Captain Augustine Warner was born 28 November 1610 in Norwich, Norfolk, England and died 26 December 1674 at Warner Hall in Gloucester Co, VA.
He sailed to the New World in 1628 under Captain Adam Thoroughgood and had land in Gloucester Co, VA by 1635.
In 1652, Capt Augustine Warner and wife Mary patented 2,500 acres at Old Cheese Cake Town on the south side of Piankitank River, Petsworth Parish, Gloucester, VA, some 15 miles NW of Warner Hall. They took this land over from the Chiskiac Indians, the last tribe to live in Gloucester Co.
He served as a Burgess 1652-56, and on the Council 1659-74. He built "Warner Hall" in Gloucester County about 1635; it is still there and is the first brick home built north of the York River.
His epitaph reads:
"Deceased ye 24th of December 1674, aged 63 years 2 mth 26 day. 'Tho dead whilest most men live he canot dy. His name will live fresh in their memory. True worth is highly shown in living well when future ages of his praise shall tell'."
He married Mary Towneley. She was born 13 May 1614 at Stone Edge, Lancashire, England and died 11 August 1662 at Warner Hall in Gloucester Co, VA. She was the daughter of Lawrence Towneley and Jennet Halstead.
